Happy Magi Day!
January 5th 2007 10:30
I have been doing some research for a book and as part of that research have been reading up on the three wise men who visited Jesus when he was born.
As I have been reading I have discovered that the 12 days of Christmas actually start on Christmas Day (or 25th December) and end on January 6th. January 6th is known as the Epiphany and is the feast day for the three wise men. So we start the 12 days with the birth of Jesus and end it with an adoration or recognition of the new era that heralded.
The Epiphany, as this day is also known, is a huge celebration in countries such as Spain and throughout Latin America. Children leave out food for the camels and in return having sweets left for them. It also considered good luck to write their initials C-M-B, standing for Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. This also stands for Christus mansionem benedicat, which translates to "may Christ bless this home"
I have wondered how they knew just what they were taking part in when they travelled from Babylonia and Persia to see this baby. They would have relied on letters carried for days and weeks. They would have relied on decaying letters and parchments stored by their teachers for decades, possibly centuries. They would have relied on their knowledge of the stars and heavens to follow the star that was their guide.
When I sit and breathe and imagine what it was like for them to have taken that journey the message I receive is “knowing”. They just knew this was a speacial child. They carried with them the most precious gifts they could find but when they got there they knew the child needed for nothing material.
I have decided my Christmas decorations will now remain til the 6th each year and on this day I will say a thank you to the wise men for their part in the beginning of the Christos era of humanity.

I loved this post and that you found out some truths, it's always so exciting ...
.. to me the magi just went beyond the intellect to the place of universal knowingness. BUt you are right, it is interesting to ponder just what they were thinking ... hmm, obviously they hoped to 'see' something quite special. I wonder if they felt dissapointed to see a baby born in squalor?
as always... very interesting...

So true Lilla. I get closer to this each day. Our minds are such amazing machines however they can really limit and cloud over our feeling state. The feeling state is so boundless and pretty scary to step into at first!
