Spiritual Dieting

This month I have been more than amused at the ads for diets, diet clubs, weight loss supplements and programs. Businesses who make their money from “helping” people lose weight know this is their peak season for recruitments and so they are in overdrive to put themselves ahead of their competition. They ride the wave of all those weight loss resolutions made for the coming year. Gyms hand out “guest passes” for their member’s friends to sample the space and hopefully too become members.
When I was a regular at my gym January was a nightmare. You were lucky to get a treadmill and had to work your routine around the crowd. By mid February things settled down. It was back to the long termers and the ones who were in it for the long haul.
I wrote in another article about how we find distractions to stop us from creating and living a full life. How we find excuses, ifs and buts to step away from our passions and desires. It was while writing that article that I took the time to reflect on how this was affecting my health. How often did I find excuse or distraction to stop from exercising? How often I eat something processed or sugary instead of some fruit?
My weight has always been an issue for me since my teens. I was never lithe or thin and was naturally curvy. However I have always liked my food too. I am one of those people who put on weight easily and have done so over the years. I have dabbled in diets and lost the weight, then gotten lax and let it slip back on. So I too was one of the people to start the year with the weight loss resolution.
I too have had many false start diets. Given up due to lack of patience mostly.
I know I have succeeded when I am really determined and do it with passion. Kind of like approaching anything in life. I also know that the food is only one aspect and that it is your mind set and the intent of your spirit that will really help you. So when I started two weeks ago that I decided to look at my intent and re-program my belief system when it came to food and my weight.
I choose to do this for my health. It wasn’t about looking a certain way or attracting a guy. I choose to be comfortable.
Above all I choose to be nice to myself.
When I make healthy choices it is acknowledging my choice to live a healthy and fulfilled life. It also means I can have an occasional treat and not cycle into guilt and regret. So this time my diet is starting with my spirit, all else follows. It has no challenges and the flow has started. In two weeks I have lost 2 kilos and my clothes are looser. My skin is clearer and I have more energy.
Each day I breathe in my choices and know that I am creating an amazing life.
