The Ease of Abandonment.

Its not often that a walk through the supermarket can give you a real deep belly laugh. Just a few days ago though that is exactly the gift I gave myself.
I was wandering down the confectionery aisle when something caught my eye in amongst the myriad of flat slabs of chocolate. It was a small bright pink box sitting at an awkward angle on the shelf, its size and shape making it stick out as much as the color. Itb was the contents that made its presence funny though because this box contained a herbal weight loss supplement.
Ok I know it isn't rare for someone to dump a product on a random shelf when they realise they don't want to purchase it but this seemed not so random. As I looked at this lonely pink box I pictured someone picking it up in aisle three, hopeful and inspired, ready to deal with a few extra kilos or so. Then just two aisles later they are standing in front of the shelves of chocolate, comtemplating the hazelnut creme, the mint chip or the fruit-and-nut when they decide "Stuff it!" They turn and throw the hazelnut creme (and possibly the mint chip) into their trolley when they spot that pink box. A quick reminder of their resolve that was so strong only two aisles ago. They can think of only one way to deal with this; dump it there and then.
So yes I pictured this scenario in seconds and I actually doubled over and began laughing. then collected myself on and moved on to aisle six. Later though it made me reflect on just how easy it is to abandon parts of ourselves. How easy it is to abandon a resolution or a goal. How easy it is to distract ourselves from even remembering what it was that we truly wanted for ourselves.
Sometimes it just means we have chosen something even better to achieve but that can be rare for most people. I imagine it is something within our habits and then even deeper it is something to do with our beliefs. Maybe that person who dumped the pink box has the belief that they just never will lose weight no matter how much they try.
