The Journey Begins....
October 30th 2006 06:29
A journey can be long or short. It can be quick or slow. But the one thing they all have in common is there is a beginning.
Now a spiritual journey has a whole other dimension added to the time and space limitations of ordinary travel. It rarely has a single fixed point that you can identify. Sure a lot of people will say there was one of those defining moments that made them consciously look to bigger questions but was this just another step along the path?
I have found it kind of hard to look back and identify any particular moment in time when I was aware of starting to open up to the more ethereal aspects of life. I put this down to having a parent and brother who were open to the supernatural and going beyond the mind. It was always around me.
This brings up another thought that perhaps for many of us the journey begins when we take our first breath and it’s really a matter of when did we choose to close it down. When did we say goodbye to our imaginary friends. When did we learn that Santa and the Easter Bunny weren’t real?
These defining moments that we later experience may just be our spirit providing us with reminders to reconnect to this aspect of ourselves. Reminders to once again open our minds up. Maybe a traumatic incident starts us looking for greater meaning. A bout of depression starts some soul searching. We meet someone inspiring or we find a book that pushes our thinking.
Soon we are far from that event or trigger. We may be searching for bigger answers to even bigger questions. Maybe we have even stopped searching and have found our peace.
The best part of reflecting on personal growth though has to be the realization that it doesn’t matter where you started but where you are right now.
