You Don't Have Problems, You're Just Bored
February 19th 2007 09:12
Humans love having problems. We wouldn’t keep creating them if we didn’t. No sooner do we solve one then we find another to replace it. It is a game and cycle we all know too well. In fact we have become so good at playing out the routine that we have forgotten that there are other ways.
Problems feed the chatter in our minds. You know so well the constant churning and internal debate that a problem can give you. This chatter and noise is such a constant that we don’t know ourselves without it. When we do finally say goodbye to a problem our mind will rest but the lack of noise makes it uneasy. It gets bored. It then says “next problem please” and we willing provide it to keep the mind busy and happy.
The mind thrives on problems. It loves the churning because this is what it is designed to do. It goes into its databank and says, “Ok how will we deal with this.” However it also says “this is just like that other time” or “This is just like when they did this to me” and so on. So not only do we give our minds the actual problem, we then allow it to layer upon it our experiences, beliefs and expectations. We go into inner chaos and we churn and spin within these layers. We cloud over the core of the problem and this distances us from the clarity and space we need to create a solution.
This whole process has become addictive. The addiction lies in the familiarity of the process and it lies in the fear of stepping into the unknown of another way in which the rules and game play are yet to be defined. The addiction also lies in the roles we get to play with when we have problems. We get to be a victim or a martyr and these roles serve us well. We build these roles within the layers of pre-conceptions and expectations our mind overlays upon the basic problem. These roles provide us with all the excuses that we have to not fully live and enjoy life. They provide us with the excuses and doubts that hold us back from pursuing our passions and dreams. We allow ourselves to live life less than fully and this in itself causes problems and so the cycle goes on.
So now can you offer yourself a new perspective? Can you allow yourself a new way? Are you ready to live life fully as a creator instead of a victim of circumstance or the martyr of a cause?
Here is the new perspective- you don’t really have problems, you just don’t have solutions. Instead of using time and energy churning over a problem look to creating a solution. It will take time for your mind to get used to the new way but it will be thankful. Your mind will become more efficient as it doesn’t waste energy with churning over a problem. It will be freer to help you create with clarity and positive energy.
So it is that over the next 25 posts that I will offer you some simple solutions for your problems. This introduction and the following solutions are actually my first book but I am happy to share the words here with you to get some feedback and discussion. Some solutions will resonate more than others so take those and work with them if you choose.
As you read the words know that you are God also and that you know these words already. You are choosing to remember.

Yes, sometimes our ways of approaching things in life can be altered as they are habits that we might hang onto as they may have worked on some level times before. I'm trying to change my worrying patterns and focus more on the present and far less on the past and the future. It is hard though!
I'm looking forward to hearing more from you..

You've hit the nail on the head here. In my house, there's no such thing as "boredom". It's a forbidden concept. My kids learned early that saying, "I'm bored" means mom will provide a list of things to do. They'd rather make their own lists. *LOL*
I also take boredom as a sign that we're not being creative, or that we're procrastinating in some area.
Excellent post!

It was the same in our house growing up, boredom wasn't a concept that my parents believed in, there was always something we could find to do. As an adult I don't use the concept either, it generally means to me that I'm in between deciding what to do rather than being bored.
